Miami Herald Develops Miami.com Beta

The Miami Herald has finally started to develop the elite destination, Miami.com.  They have put up the beta version at this time.  Thank you Patrick for sending this our way.  This is another outstanding sign that tradional media is getting the picture of the power a great city.com name can deliver.  I envision Miami.com becoming an instant success for the Herald.  They will be amazed of the performance it produces for them.

One key element they have not added yet, is an option for consumers to subscribe to a newsletter.  This is one of the biggest money makers that most developed sites fail to capitalize on.  More on this to come.

Over all, they have done a great job making the site presentable.  I really do not care for the logo they have selected, as it does not make me think of miami by looking at it(Besides reading it of course  :-).  It will be interesting to watch it evolve to meet consumer demand in the coming months.  This is a great opportunity for all us to watch this moth blossom into a butterfly, so take notes to how big media develops their Geo domain.  This is a rare opportunity!

I agree, Steve! Newsletters are big for Geo sites. Not just from the revenue standpoint but to keep your visitors invested in the city.

    Jessica,

100% correct. They also give a personalized touch when your chracter comes through, so long as it is a positive one :-).

They got Miami.com and FortLauderdale.com when they bought Knight-Ridder. It’s abut time they started building it out instead of just pointing it to MiamiHerald.com like they still do with FortLauderdale.com.

    David,

Can not believe they have waited this long to start building this gem. I am sure FortLauderdale.com will follow suit soon, as Miami.com is embraced by consumers.

I rather like the Miami.com logo, the blue wave underneath. The beta site appears a bit cluttered to me but that’s just personal preference. Miami is a huge destination and travel nexus so it should be a proven success in due time - drawing local and international interest.

    Menius,

I know it will be an instant success once it is 100% live. Take a look at these stats. 123,542 U.S. visitors per month. Money in the bank!

    Steve,

Did you mean take a look at the Compete stats?

    This will work too! :-)

Alot of great tools on the net now to see traffic performance on domains.

I agree with the newsletter…I just made a site and part of the fee they pay automatically includes the newsletter. Things like the email list are part of what your selling if you sell the site later…this adds alot of value
