Another great article from the “scribemaster”. We are all very fortunate to have someone like Ron Jackson writing about our industry. He understands it so well and where it is headed. He really looks out for everyone and champions our cause. He’s the one that should write THE book someday.

Tommy, are you selling your portfolio to purchase London.com? If so, drinks are on me..

Ron’s writing and coverage is always stellar. The guy is so quality minded. Literally, he must get 2-3 hours of sleep a night. I was surprised to learn that Dan Pulcrano had purchased a good number of names from private individuals. I’d always imagined they were reg’d by him in the early years of the internet.

Dan and I were looking at the same portfolio of city names in 1996 which were owned by rte66.com in Hollywood Hills. He kept looking at those names and when they were put up for sale he bought them for an unreal price (a lot in those days). I did not see it and never would have believed the owner would have let them go. I am sure he is kicking himself now.

Dan had his eye on the ball early on. There is no way any of us could have registered them for free after 1993. The original owner had incredible insight but must have been talked out of it. Everyone that I knew thought the WWW was a fad back then. Dan scored what I call the “Mother-Load of City Names”.

    Michael,

Dan definitely held on to the vision, despite the lack of support. Amazing, right place, right time, right funding available. Simply amazing, and the funny thing is, people registering and buying geo domains on the internet today, just might be in the same position 10 years from now. With others saying, wow, they were genius! History always repeats itself in different manifestations. It is up to the individual to embrace that opportunity that just may change their life forever!

  6. Michel Castello Says:

Correct on my last post. The original portfolio was owned by rte66.com
