I admire everyone's passion for their beliefs. That with an idea and drive will make you successful. George is right, you can monetize any extension with proper development and marketing. We see it everyday. We all still prefer .com. Why? Because it is the most developed and marketed extension to date. I like .TV but I've never invested into it because the renewals were too expensive, though that will be of benefit to some. Also, its ccTLD status has always left a bad taste. It'll take a lot of branding to wash that one away. Though it does appear as of late that has picked up steam.

The reality is that everything takes time to develop and that will include .TV. It's finally catching on in some areas and I wish those invested into the extension the best.

Ironically the real Frank S. owns "ASBN.com" and I'm sure he'll appreciate and traffic you're currently sending his way. Keep branding.

I look at it this way. Until 1979, there were three major networks ABC, CBS, and NBC (plus PBS). That is all we had. Those three networks were Television.

Then came cable and companies started to develop cable channels. The big three are still around. They are still the big dogs, but the TV universe has expanded.

The .COM space is pretty full. Most of the quality top level .COM names are developed, expensive, or parked (with no intention of selling).

StLouis.com is not for sale, so I bought StLouis.TV for $X,XXX.

If someone can develop quality sites under another TLD, just as the cable companies built quality channels....then the internet universe will expand beyond .COM just as Television expanded beyond the original networks.

If you don't develop (and market-sorry) a quality site, it won't matter whether you own a .COM, .TV, etc because your site will be .DOA (dead on arrival).

"Within the next 36 months, we will be seeing xxx,xxx and more than likely a x,xxx, xxx .TV sales transaction"

See all of you in 36 months. Will it be 3 x your future unknown .tv registration fees by then? Or, more likely, 2 x as you cut your losses?

"Not Frank"

We can go back and forth all day each naming media companies using .TV and .com.

As I've said repeatedly but you fail to understand, it is not one or the other. Both can and will be used for the online media space and both can and will be successful.

In fact, many companies will use both as HamptonRoads.com and .tv are owned by the same billion dollar media company.

Vegas.com just bought Las.tv.

Bottom line: You are snooping around in the shadows with no proven track record to my knowledge.

However, one person with a track record I am certain that you can not compare to is Michael Castello (ccin.com), He is one of the people I admire most in this industry, who doesn't hide behind aliases and actually is a proven winner at the top of the Geo Industry. This man saw the vision before 99.9% of us.

Here is what he had to say on SimplyGeo.com about .TV when asked under the thread "What is a Geo Domain ?"

# Michael Castello on 13 Apr 2008 at 17:04 pm
"Brian. Just as .com is a brand, TV is an accepted brand for information. I believe with the large amount of .tv development that we are seeing, the sky is the limit with its potential. Developers like you will define it. It is probably my second choice in TLDs."

It's a no-brainer, you CAN NOT deny, hide or shelter the facts. The attention, interest and development is here and gaining ground fast, period.

1) GP, YOU and I both know I was not personal attacking you, although it may have been harsh. *(obviously not my intention). Will be in touch via PM today. :) My point was, there are hundreds if not thousands of companies that are instant successes without boat loads of DN out of the gate. Like I mentioned, with the proper game plan, staff and creativity, you *CAN build a $10 million dollar business.

2) *Not Frank*, I have no idea why I waste my breath, obviously there is no need. MLB.TV was the *(1) example YOU MENTIONED, and I supported facts on why they aren't *terrible as you mentioned. I think ANY company would be glad to hear Yahoo! knocking at the door wanting to carry their ad load, but hell what do I know. Again, for some reason you are carrying this conversation and debate into the wrong direction. Just the simple fact I have YOU arguing and trying to support/reinforce the *power of .com automatically shifts as a defense and proves the .TV model is not only gaining ground fast, but has been *ACCEPTED, sought after, and now, *DEVELOPED. (insert, "oops I missed the train, again). The list of companies above, not sure if you've ever seen them, but they must have lost your contact info before they made these *international marketing and development decisions. In closing, I'd like to personally let you know, IN THE FUTUE, they plan to set up individual team pages for the LIVE distribution of the games. They will do this by using the TEAM NAME followed by a .TV. ..Don't believe me? Call MLB, I did. For now however, you can type in every single MLB team with .TV and see what you get.

Again, this is not aimed as a personal attack, to anyone, but the facts are facts. I, as well as the other supporters, have NEVER downplayed the value of .com domains, that would be foolish. HOWEVER, we are bringing FACTS to the table, something that .net, .org, .info, .us, .biz, .ws, .name, ...and a half dozen others WERE NOT ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH, ever. Again, .TV will continue to gain INTERNATIONAL attention, and with time and education, it will be the 2nd most developed and valuable TLD on the planet. It will pass all other TLD'S in registration *(besides .com), within the next 36 months. This is (in my eyes), round 3 of 10. Within the next 36 months, we will be seeing xxx,xxx and more than likely a x,xxx, xxx .TV sales transaction. Again, before you come skipping back with .com this and .com that, that is NOT the point. THE point is, .TV by and large, is one of the most solid investments in the industry for generics and geos. It creates "instant credibility" and a branding effect that NO OTHER TLD offers. The WOW factor of this decade. The new COOL TLD. The "NEW" must see and/or must have. It also, when developed, gives the ultimate edge for the *owner as it meets the viewers "new age" expectations and will be more consistently desired.

Thanks.

Nikos,

I'm not just someone trashing the extension. I have alot invested in GEO .TV. It is a FACT that today GEO .TV domains don't get enough organic traffic to build a $10M business.

If you develop it and market it, then you can build traffic. But starting from ground zero, you are going to need to find a way to get traffic to your GEO TV domain.

I would not have invested in GEO .TV if I didn't have experience running a large marketing budget.

My my my, I see I got you .tvers knickers in a tight little knot, didn't I? Of course, as Not Frank Schilling, I can understand how insane my domain prescience drives you.

NY, you might want to read the press release a little more closely before throwing words like naive and foolish around. "The games will be available through a co-branded player on Yahoo Sports and MLB.com."

MLB.tv simply stands for "out-of-market video package". Meaning does not stand for the domain MLB.tv. Where does one go to view this package? Quelle surprise! MLB.com! From the FAQ:

"How do I access my MLB.TV subscription?

We want to make it easy for you to view the game of your choice, therefore there are multiple ways of viewing a LIVE or on-demand game with MLB.TV.

To find the day's schedule of LIVE games, go to the MLB.com home page"

Translation: ouch.

George:

"If you effectively develop your site (and market it), the extension is im-material."

I can haz multi-million $ marketing budget?

Brian:

"if you think it will not be a major force and a viable alternative to .com when it comes to online video, you are very naive."

There's that word again! of course. I stand corrected. I forgot that youtube.com, Dailymotion.com, Metacafe.com, Imeem.com, vids.myspace.com, video.google .msn .yahoo .com, livevideo.com were all going to announce their switch to .tv imminently.
