Posts Posted by Steve under .TV on Monday, June 2nd, 2008 1:31 pm

This press release was submitted to me this weekend. NLV is selling a portion of their .TV geo domain portfolio. There are many domainers invested in .tv domains and that is why I have decided to post this on the blog. The contact information is located in the press release.

Our portfolio has gained a tremendous amount of attention in recent months from a variety of businesses including, national real estate companies, travel agencies, tourism boards and private investors. With the “.TV” (Top-Level-Domain) really starting to pick up steam on an International scale we feel it’s a good time to start testing the waters, says Niko Younts, NLV Media’s President and CEO.

Yahoo Launches Portal On HDTVs in Japan

Yahoo! TV portal to come to Japan home TVs on 29 May.  The internet is changing and competing with every traditional media outlet ever created.  Newspapers were the first to be impacted by the power of the internet to deliver updated news content, making the print publications mostly obsolete.  This content created large amounts of traffic to websites that advertisers could not ignore.  Now advertisers have begun to abandon print publications to advertise on the internet.  Now, cable companies will soon be impacted when Yahoo! starts to push video subscriptions through their TV portals.  Once this hits mainstream in the United States, cable companies will have to make some major changes.

In my opinion, local content will be the number one choice for those who subscribe to internet TV.  Perhaps those who own .TV domains may now have another revenue source to add to their arsenal.  I am sure that Internet TV will cost much less than traditional cable TV.  Advertisers will once again follow the traffic and discounted advertising rates.  Evolution is great!

Local TV Station Owners Push Mobile TV

Evolution is great, it enables the once impossible strategies to come to fruition.  .TV owners may soon move into mainstream faster than expected if the Open Mobile Video Coalition is succesful streaming TV to mobile devices.  The great thing about the internet is that it is always changing.  What is not popular today, may become the next hot thing tomorrow all based on new technology.  It will be interesting to see how this transforms consumers behaviors both online and offline if successful.

.TV owners are in a great position as the internet continues to manifest.  Patience is a very hard virtue to embrace.  My advice to all who invest in domains is to stay the course and embrace your beliefs without allowing individuals to manipulate them.  Listen and learn from individuals, but do not allow yourself to abandon your “gut feeling” or what you believe in, unless it is just plain foolish.  In the end, those who stay the course will reap the biggest rewards.

The Open Mobile Video Coalition said at the National Association of Broadcasters meeting in Las Vegas that it will push for an open standard by next year that would allow members to bypass cell phone companies and tap into what they think will be a $2 billion market for mobile advertising.

The station owners say transmitting directly to mobile devices would give them a third means of delivering local programming — and capturing revenue — along with broadcasting to TVs and streaming it on station-owned Web sites.
