Google.com Focuses On Adsense For Videos

Posts Posted by Steve under General, Geo Platforms, Video Ads on Thursday, February 21st, 2008 7:03 pm

Yesterday, I posted Google.com’s, DoubleClick.com, launching a new auction advertising platform.  Now Google releases Adsence for videos today.  This is great news for those .TV owners who have developed video content on their websites.  Additionally, for those who are still currently developing their domains with video content.  Google has been experimenting with this program for the past 2 years and has selected 20 partners to test the technology platform.

Although this is a small part of the web advertising market, Google.com remains committed to this niche.  Historically, Google.com has proven to stay the leader in niche markets because they have been the first to offer user friendly programs and technologies.  Additionally, they have continued to be the first in many niches that have kept them on top.

Google.com is not slowing down their dominince in the web advertising market anytime soon.  I am sure in the upcoming months, they will release some new technologies to interlink the complete advertising network with the click of the button for advertisers.

TV Stations Seek Shows to Put Online

Posts Posted by Steve under Advertising Dollars, Video Ads on Monday, February 4th, 2008 1:11 pm

This year at the National Association of Television Program Executives conference, the hottest topic was online syndication.  The online video niche is starting to become main stream for TV stations, as old school media is starting to embrace video technology.

Consumers are more mobile now, than any other time in history.  The amount of people who actually sit down and watch TV these days has descreased since the old days.  I know I probally watch about 1 hour of TV a day these days.  One reason is because I find the commericals very annoying and loud.  Additionally, most of the time you can find the shows you are looking for online without having to rely on your TV.

Video advertising is going to be one of the new waves for local advertising in the coming years.  The main reason online syndication will be very successful is because it puts the power into consumers hands.  They will determine when it is best to view the show or content, not the Station.  This will include a new wave of personalized video commercials for consumers where they will have a choice of subscribing to.  It will be interesting to see all the new technologies that will be developed for website developers to implement into their websites in the coming years.

This year at the biggest conference in syndication — where local affiliate stations fill their shopping carts with enough content to keep their schedules lively — the hottest topic was online syndication. In this emerging part of the market, stations buy syndicated programs to show on their Web sites, and they sell advertisements with those programs to local businesses.

Local stations know how to use their Web sites to deliver sports scores and updates on school closings, but they have shown little ability to lure viewers with original content or to convert page views into dollars.

YouTube Mexico Mobile Kiosks

“Out of The Box”

(via reuters)

While a plan for local advertising on the site is in the works, YouTube is touring the country with mobile kiosks where staffers show users how to upload videos, Garcia says. “Before we think about the monetization aspect, we need to make sure the community finds the site interesting.

YouTube.com is very smart with this “out of the box” initiative to teach individuals how to use their video platform in a foreign country.  This is going to be a small trend in the future, mobile internet learning kiosks.  With so many baby boomers now coming online, it is imperative for services to teach them how to use the internet, as well as their computers.  Most have never been on a computer, to include senior citizens.  Have you ever seen an older person struggle trying to figure out the basics of a computer?  What about with definitions of internet terms and the importance of traffic to a business website?  It is not easy for a person with an oldschool mindset to embrace technology.  They have programmed themselves to operate in the traditional ways and need assistance to break out of that mindset and embrace technology.

In my career, there are many old school leaders that do not have a clue about the power of the internet or advance functions of email.  I am always teaching Senior leaders different things when it comes to computers and the internet.  Most small business owners are baby boomers in the same position and are stuck in traditional media thinking.  When you discuss advertising options on your targeted geodomain to small business owners, probally 90% are turning you away because they simply don’t  get it/understand it and keeps them from signing up with your service.  No one will commit hard earned money to a game plan that sounds confusing or that they do not understand.  Would you?

I think it would be a great idea for city.com owners and prime georealestate.com owners to explore the possibility of establishing a Geo.com mobile kiosk platform to promote your geodomain and teach these uninformed business owners how you can increase their profits.  Additionally, you can network with other geo owners in the area and reenforce it thru Geo Seminars in your area.

In the end, it is not about you that future advertisers care about.  They care about their business and maximizing their ROI on advertising dollars spent.  Make them the center of attention and meet their needs, not yours.  If you focus on them, these same small business owners will do free word or mouth advertising and your customer base will increase 10 fold.  We have to collectively find ways to break them out of the traditional mold in order for the geodomain industry to reach it maximum potential. A Geo Mobile Kiosk just might be one of those of tools.

Places they could be set up, Walmart, Tradeshows, Staples, Home Depot, and of course on demand

Hot New Trend: Video News Clips and Video Classifieds

A couple of weeks ago I posted how cool it would be to use videos as content to attract targeted consumers/visitors using the .tv extention to your geo domain.  This strategy is now going mainsteam on the dot com side of the house with the announcement of Yahoo! and Belo teaming up to provide targeted news video clips.  In another announcement today, RealPeopleRealStuff.com, a classified and advertisement video site, was voted as one of the most promising new business concepts by springwise.com.  According to Borrell Associates, the nations leading online advertising research firm, the nascent online video market is poised to grow more than tenfold over the next five years, comprising 33% of all online local advertising by 2012.

Consumer, Advertising and Classified Videos are going to be the new modes of delivering targeted content to consumers.  Each year consumers are getting lazier on the internet and they will embrace video content to keep from having to read content.  Additionally, voice search is going to explode for the same reason, why type when you can talk it out.  New internet trends spread rapidly into every industry.  Soon, video PPC ads will be delivered on parked domains generating larger amounts of revenue.  Domain platforms will follow and be an excellent tool for geopreneurs to consider implementing onto their geo site developments.

Do you think video content will be more effective than text content?

“NEW YORK (Reuters) – Belo Corp. <BLC.N> plans to designate 13 of its television stations as the exclusive provider of local news video to Yahoo <YHOO.O> in those markets, the companies said on Wednesday.

With the deal, Yahoo plans to host dozens of local news video clips each day, provided by Belo’s TV stations. The clips will run in the local section of Yahoo News.
The companies will share advertising revenue generated from the video clips.

YouTube made it easy to post funny videos, explains Alan Jacobson, one of the sites creators. People have responded enthusiastically just for the chance to become famous without a financial incentive. Craigslist made it easy to make money by selling goods and services online, but has no video capability. RealPeopleRealStuff.com offers both.

Since its launch, RealPeopleRealStuff.com has established strategic partnerships with newspapers in the U.S. and Canada to bring their new advertising model to local markets.

Janet DeGeorge, a leading expert in classified advertising, says While some people do post video ads on YouTube which is free its really not set up for advertising. Youve got video ads from all over the world for homes and restaurants next to videos of cats playing piano. At RealPeopleRealStuff.com and its partner sites, youve got ads in a commercial environment, with consumers actively seeking your product or service, in your area.

At a time when newspapers are seeing steadily declining revenues from classified advertising in their print product, video advertising may allow them to recoup some of the business theyve lost to sites like eBay and Craigslist.

Online TV and Video Ads On Geo Domains

How effective would online TV and video ads be on geo domains?  With a large amount of targeted traffic, I would conclude they would do better than TV, banner and link advertisements.  How would you go about getting the local businesses to place their TV ad on your geo domain?  This is oviously an additional revenue stream for geopreneurs.  Here is a study I came across (via techcrunch.com) that got me thinking of the multiple possibilities of video ads on geo domains.

“A new study by Simmons, a unit of Experian Research Services has found that consumers are 47% more engadged by ads that run with television programs viewed online than those watched on a TV set.

The study also found that viewers are 25% more engaged in the content of TV shows that they watch online than on a TV, are 18% more engaged in ads online, as opposed to print versions (magazines etc), and they are 15% more engaged in magazine articles online than in print form.”

A partnership would have to be established with local Ad/Media companys.  Additionally, a platform should exist for small business owners with limited cashflow to construct their own video ads either thru your site or an affiliate to ensure you capture every angle.  Interesting concept, have any of the city.com owners pursued this avenue yet?

Geopreneurs, what are your thoughts on this?
